8 Hidden psychological problems of a person

Love or, on the contrary, hostility to cleaning is not just a characteristic of a person. It is possible to determine some peculiarities of a character, even just by looking at how a person washes dishes and where he stores his clothes. Looking at how you organize the space around you, you can learn a lot about your personality. The same goes for other people. Want to know someone closer? Look into his house.

We at Day-Way believe that it is always helpful to understand something new about ourselves and those around us. This time we have compiled for you a list of the most common everyday habits of people and the psychological characteristics by which they may be due.

1. All the trash is hidden in boxes, cabinets, boxes

At first glance it seems that everything in the apartment or room is perfect: a clean floor, beautifully placed books, tastefully selected wallpapers … But it is worth looking into the kitchen drawer or on the back shelf of the closet, as you find broken scissors and pens there, old bank cards or clothes that lies like horrible.

External presentation is important for all of us. But for people with a demonstrative personality type especially. They like to do their best and do many things first and foremost to impress others. It is easier for representatives of this type to somehow hide all unnecessary, old and ugly things in the back box than to disassemble them. Often it is more important for them to preserve the attractive appearance of their home and their own positive image than to really put everything on the shelves.

2. Lack of at least minimal repair

Some people live for years in an apartment with a leaking tap, old grandmother’s wallpaper and store things in a box instead of a cabinet, so as not to spend extra money on it. Most often they perceive their housing as temporary: they plan to move to another city, find a job abroad, take a mortgage, or simply wait for their life to somehow change and improve by itself.

Only here the period of residence in the «temporary» housing is sometimes stretched for decades. From the point of view of psychology, people of this type tend to live in the future and look at it through rose-colored glasses. They perceive the present as a temporary inconvenience that must be experienced. On the other hand, they often do not have a specific plan — such people are accustomed to live one day and hope for external forces that will change everything for the better.

3. Cluttered workplace

Desk — one of the most interesting places in the apartment in terms of psychology. For some people, everything is sorted into folders, folders are placed on the shelves. Others on the table are mixed in a pile of paper, plates, pens, colored pencils, a notebook: they occupy all the space and are also covered with a layer of dust. This may indicate a flimsy, high self-esteem and infantilism.

But the mess on the table, provided that you are really actively working behind it and are able to easily find the right thing among the chaos, does not always mean something bad. Very often, a cluttered table is an indicator of creative and inventive nature. If you have to not only type, but also write by hand, draw charts and graphs, then it is likely that your workplace does not look too neat. But, most likely, you are often visited by unusual ideas and creative insights.

4. Overflowing sink, laundry basket or trash can

Few people can say that he loves to do the cleaning. But some people have a dislike for it reaching frightening proportions: they can save up the whole winter garbage on the balcony or put things in the basket (and in the sink — dishes) until it turns out that there is nothing left to wear and nothing to eat. for later, or procrastination, is a problem familiar to so many people. It is manifested in everyday life. It seems that it is more logical and easier to do a small part of the work at a time and not save it. But in fact, there are excuses like «laziness», «once» or «another time.»
If you have noticed a tendency to procrastination and at home, try to start with household trifles. Washing dishes immediately after eating and taking out the garbage every other day creates a healthy habit of doing everything on time, which is useful in more important things, such as work or relationships with people.

5. The effect of non-residential premises

Some people’s homes look like they’re only going to sleep there. It can be quite clean, with a minimum of furniture and utensils, sometimes there is not even a stove, refrigerator or other necessary things. Such an organization of space is often found, for example, among students or those who are often on the road: they really spend little time in an apartment.

However, the more mature a person is, the more comfort and order he wants to bring into his life. If the housing looks empty, but at the same time a person spends a lot of time in it, this may indicate some psychological features. Including infantilism: an adult is still waiting for someone to make the space comfortable for him. For example, she thinks that she will find a partner who will take care of the convenience and maintenance of the apartment.

6. Leftover food in the kitchen

The kitchen should be almost the cleanest room in the house, because there we eat and cook. Drops of fat and oil, dried leftover food, traces of tea or coffee on the cups — all this not only gives an unsightly look to the dwelling, but can also be dangerous to health. Even those who do not like cleaning, try to keep the kitchen clean at least for reasons of hygiene. However, there are those who are willing to put up with dirt.

And sometimes the problem is not just laziness or carelessness. So, many studies prove that old dirt and rare cleaning is one of the signs of depression. A person does not have the strength to engage in everyday life, he does not feel that this is important, and perhaps he does not value himself enough to live in purity. On the other hand, there is also a feedback: the usual cleaning and loosening of the space raise the mood and help fight the symptoms of depression.

7. Dirty bathroom

In advertising shampoos, the bathroom is often presented as a place where you can forget about all the problems and relax as much as possible. Indeed, a hot bath or a cold shower has a big impact on our well-being. Smells can soothe or invigorate the brain, salts and oils — improve the condition of the skin and the functioning of the internal organs.

In appearance of the bathroom, it can be said how much a person cares not only about his body, but also about psychological comfort. A clean bathroom is an indication that it is used regularly. Shower gels, a variety of oils, high-quality toothpaste, body and face creams — all these things indicate that a person takes care of himself. If the bathroom only has a razor with foam that has dried on it and an old bar of soap, it’s not a fact that its owner is depressed. However, most likely, he has a high level of stress and is unlikely to be very concerned about his appearance.

8. Too many things

Some difficult to part with any things. Surely everyone has seen such apartments: their owners have several tea sets that nobody uses, old furniture is on the balcony, filled with cans, bottles and other rubbish, and there is an ancient bicycle gathering dust that nobody has been driving for a long time.

At best, this behavior speaks of a conservative stock of human character: he does not want to change his usual way of life and tries to protect himself from change. In the worst case, the pull of trash home can be a sign of compulsive behavior and neurosis: a person is simply unable to stop himself from accumulating unnecessary things.

Bonus: too clean

There are people who, in their free time, do not mind once again cleaning the bathroom or vacuuming the carpet. Of course, the love of order is not bad, but too much attention to this area can talk about problems. As a rule, such people are not too fond of guests, because they can stain, drop or accidentally move, violating the ideal order.

Such behavior can talk about the habit of fixating on trifles and a tendency toward perfectionism. If an apartment is regularly cleaned and washed because of the fear of germs and dirt, then most likely such a person suffers from anxiety. Sometimes cleaning people just for disturbing people helps to distract from unpleasant thoughts, which is why they do it so often. Numerous studies have already proved that regular space clearance and other simple everyday activities can solve our concentration problems, make us more responsible, happy and confident.
